What is a game without a good soundtrack? It would be like eating your cereal plain, without milk. Jokes aside, a soundtrack really has the ability to make a game much more enjoyable – it allows us as players to get even more invested in the game because it’s simply enchanting. Whether it’s a special theme for a boss fight that makes you really pumped to win the battle, or an atmospheric lullaby to help you get invested in the story, even more, we can all agree that a good soundtrack is a must. We were recently discussing our favorite and most famous soundtracks from the games we love and we remembered so many gems from our childhood that we simply wanted to share with you all. Without further ado, here are our famous, favorite soundtracks of all time, in no particular order:
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher saga has always had an amazing soundtrack, but the third part, Wild Hunt, has brought the game of “the best soundtrack to a game” to another level! Created by Marcin Przybyłowicz, a Polish composer and sound designer, the soundtrack is a perfect addition to the story of Geralt. It’s by his use of traditional Polish instruments, mixing them with modern sounds, that he managed to create such a perfect sound that makes the game recognizable even to people who have never played it. What’s great about it is that you can listen to it on its own (without playing it, we mean) and you can still feel its magic.
Cuphead
If you haven’t played Cuphead, you have surely at least encountered the characters from it, and most definitely have heard the music used in the game. Composed by Kristofer Maddigan, the soundtrack of this game features jazz music which in addition to the style of drawing of the characters makes you feel nostalgic about the era you’ve never even lived in – the 1930s. It’s over 3 hours long and it’s rather enjoyable – you can play it as your background music that will help you throughout your day.
Doom 2016
Created by the now legendary Mick Gordon, an Australian composer, this soundtrack crushes with its heavy riffs while you’re pummelling through demon guts in HD. Graphic, we know. But honestly, this is such a heavy soundtrack that boosts your skills (Yeah it does sound fake – but please don’t judge until you try. Thank us later!) and accompanies you through every boss battle. If you’re a fan of metal riffs, you’ll enjoy this soundtrack very much.
Cyberpunk 2077
How can we miss out on talking about Cyberpunk 2077? While it may not be that good of a game, it surely has an amazing soundtrack, which can be labeled iconic even though it was released fairly recently. The composers did an amazing job creating songs of multiple genres (one of them being the same composer for the Witcher 3! – Do you see a pattern needed for an amazing OST?) so everybody can enjoy a good song no matter their favorite genre; there’s a song for everyone.
